Nick jumped down next to me with wide eyes.
"Oh my gosh, Keila, are you okay?!"
I didn't answer, just laid there bawling my eyes out.
"I think I broke my leg." I tried to say in between sobbs.
"Okay, let's go..." He led me to the nurse and she called an ambulance. Nick came with me to the hospital. Within a few hours, I was back at Camp Fuego with a cast on my leg and a crutch under my arm. Sarah and Gabi came running up to me.
"Keila! What happened?!" Gabi yelled.
"I, um... fell." I said quietly. I don't know why.
"Are you okay?"
"Yes, I'm fine."
"How long do you have to wear that thing?"
"A few months." They hugged me and went to their fire building class. Nick took me to my cabin.
"Maybe I should leave..." I said.
"What? Why?"
"Well, I don't see how I could do anything here with this thing on my leg..."
Nick didn't say anything. He just stared at the floor. I knew he was keeping something from me.
"Do you want me to stay?"
"Well, yeah."
"And... can you tell me why you want me to stay?"
"Well, because. Like I said before... I want to know you better. And such."
"Well, okay, I guess. But... um... I..."
"What?"
"I don't know how exactly to tell you this..."
"What is it?"
"It's just that... um..."
"You can tell me."
"I, um... I kinda..."
"Yes..?"
"I think I kinda... sorta... maybe..."
"What is it?!"
I didn't say anything for about 30 seconds.
"Keila, you can tell me anything."
"I... I... I..." I started to sweat nervously. I didn't have the guts to tell him what I needed to say. I didn't know how he would take it.
"Keila, tell me!"
"I...I-I...I CAN'T DO THIS!!" I fell back on my pillow.
"Um... I'm a bit confused."
"Me too.." I muttered.
"What?"
"Nothing."
"So... you can't do what?"
"I... I can't tell you what I have to say... not now. Not here."
"Um.. okay."
I closed my eyes. How and when am I going to tell him? How will he react? I shouldn't tell him... but if I don't, I won't feel right around him. And if I do, he'll be crushed. I took in a big sigh. I opened my eyes and saw Nick looking confusedly at the wall in front of him.
"Well..." Nick broke the silence. "I guess I better go. Do you need anything before I leave?"
".......Only a hug." I sat up and let Nick wrap his arms around me. He felt warm and safe, and yet, something didn't feel right. I wasn't sure what, though. He let go and kissed my forehead, then left. I closed my eyes again and slowly laid back down, pulling the blanket over me. Oh wait, I forgot something... I reached over and switched off the light. I sighed quietly and tried to sleep.
